With just about every “difference maker” in a decision there is one item that puts that decision over the top.  It was no different with the decision for us to start CAASH CHARITY.  There was “Cops Adopt” for Coach Behrens and “Eric Watts” for both Coach Ridgley and Behrens and there was even “The Fireman versus The Coach” for Coach Ridgley but the defining moment came in late 2016 when long time friend, teammate and assistant coach, Jim Blair, found out he needed total hip replacement.  He was nearing retirement and as we know insurance these days leaves a lot to be desired with the enormous co-pays and patient shares.  It was no different for Jim.  He really felt that he was not going to be able to afford it without putting his finances in jeopardy.  In stepped Coaches Ridgley and Behrens and many others for that matter.  They talked Jim into going and finding out what it would cost and came back with the amount.  Immediately a GOFUND ME account was started to raise a rather substantial amount for the surgery.  Within 48 hours the money was raised by past players, concerned parents and fans and the coaches across the Northwest Indiana area.  In fact, 125% of the original amount was raised.  Approximately a month later Jim had the surgery and is now walking without pain.

What this did was show Gary and Fred that they were surrounded by caring, giving and concerned people that could make this venture possible.  At a time when people are becoming hardened by what is going on throughout the country and world it was nice to see the rallying that was shown for someone in need.  As Gary’s brother Dale stated “It is truly a fact that a difference can be made by one person and we are lucky to be surrounded by so many difference makers”

We truly believe that we are ready to MAKE A DIFFERENCE, one person or family or event at a time.
